Xacona brings together a group of talented young musicians especialised in ancient music from all over the world, who first met as members of the European Union Baroque Orchestra. Xacona performs a wide range of 17th- and 18th- century repertoire, the ensemble size being adapted according to the needs of each programme. At the core of the ensemble is Xacona Winds, a group consisting of 2 oboes, bassoon, violone and harpsichord. This formation recently won the prestigious early music competition Musica Antiqua in Bruges, and has since been invited to perform at the Bruges 2007 Early Music Festival and at festivals in France, Poland and Spain and to many other concerts, such as our Wigmore Hall Debut in 2005 and our BBC Radio 3 broadcast The string group is lead by violinist Jorge Jimenez, and the oboist Molly Marsh, who was a co-founders of Xacona when the group first started playing together in 2000. The members of the ensemble are usually playing with of The King's Consort, English Baroque Soloists, Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra, Academy of Ancient Music, Orquesta Barroca de Sevilla, Al Ayre Espanyol, The English Concert or Europa Galante. Since 2001 Xacona is ensemble-in-residence at the Girton College, of the Cambridge University .
